Dávila 666

Thursday, May 17, 2012 / JARRAD WILD

Puerto Rico's 'Davila 666', commonly described as "Menudo on drugs' are a garage rock band pumped full of sugary pop melodies. Packed full of 7 members, their theatrical live show, is one not to be missed. Full of themes, props, costumes and dancers, they secured their place of fame across the U.S. by elegantly executing the above during a tour with The Black Lips and The King Khan & BBQ Show. Check out the tracks below and let us know what you think in the comments below.

Just a little over a year has passed since the scottish based post-rock band Mogwai released their last studio album titled "hardcore will never die, but you will".

Their stunningly dynamic sound is influenced by bands including MC5, Pink Floyd, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Fugazi, and post-rock pioneers Slint.

Step back in time with Dr. Dog

Friday, Mar 30, 2012 / JARRAD WILD

'Back in my day', I was fortunate to stumble across a band hailing out of West Grove, Pennsylvania, called 'Dr. Dog'. These guys are an amazing mash up of Psychedlic Rock, Indie Rock and what's known as Baroque Pop. Taking a lo-fi approach to their recordings, Dr. Dog have nailed the pop-rock sound originating from the 1960's. The progression of this band has been quite interesting to follow, and in 2007 when they released a 7" Vinyl titled "The Girl/Heart It Races", they stapled themselves as a keyplayer in the music industry. This vinyl featured a cover of Beck's track titled "The Girl" and a cover of Australian Pop Group Architecture in Helsinki's "Heart It Races". These tracks are ridiculously good, and this band is freakin insane. Check them out, listen to the songs below, and hit us up on Facebook to let us know what you think!

LANA vs B.I.G

Tuesday, Mar 20, 2012 / Samuel Nolan

lana and biggy

To mark the 15th anniversary of the death of The Notorious B.I.G, Terry Urban has presented a mix of Biggie’s ‘Ready To Die’ and Del Rey’s ‘Born To Die.’

“In honour of Biggie’s passing 15 years ago on March 9, 1997, I wanted to do a special project. Mick Boogie and I honored the anniversary of his passing with a special project called ‘Unbelievable’, which was hosted by Sean “Diddy” Combs and exceed 500k downloads online.

But to pay tribute this time, I wanted to do something different. Merge music styles. Bridge audiences together in new ways. So I proudly present to you along with the homies from Dope Couture… Lana Del Rey and Notorious Big… ‘Born Ready To Die’.

The music from Lana’s ‘Born To Die’ and the lyrics from Biggie’s ‘Ready To Die’… still timeless after all these years. It’s a perfect marriage… dark and mysterious… soulful and gritty. Lana told Vogue Magazine that Biggie was one of her biggest musical influences… and now… he is her musical collaborator. I present to you… ‘Born Ready To Die.’” - Terry Urban

The Sound Of Jon Gomm

Friday, Feb 03, 2012 / JARRAD WILD

Here's one for the chillers... Last year sometime I stumbled across a guy by the name of Jon Gomm. After just completing the biggest talk up in the world to Dave, I figured his an obvious choice for this weeks Beats Blog.

Jon Gomm is one of the most ridiculously talented musicians I've ever seen, taking Andy Mckee/Antoine Dufour style playing and mashing it with his own touch (and vocals...). For those of you who dig him, keep an eye out during April, as his coming from the UK to complete an Aussie tour.. Let us know what you think of this shredder on The Book.
