Vegetable tanned leather refers to the tannage or method of tanning the cowhide into the leather. The process uses natural materials such as bark, leaves and fruit skins which are all free from harmful chemicals and results in a more natural and organic finish. Vegetable Tanning is one of the oldest methods of tanning known to man and has literally been around for centuries. Still done by hand, some products can take up to 6 weeks to complete and adds a unique touch to every product.
One of the great advantages of vegetable tanned leather is the high durability and strength it creates, ensuring the product will last you a lifetime only getting better with age as well as being biodegradable. As long as you use and maintain your vegetable-tanned leather product, you consume less and will be diminishing your footprint on the environment.
