We recently caught up with indie-rock trio Middle Kids before heading off on their tour up the East Coast of Aus after the successful release of their latest album, 'Today We’re The Greatest'. Hailing from Sydney, the trio consists of frontwoman Hannah Joy, drummer Harry Day and bass guitarist Tim Fitz. Decked out in their favourite threads from our collection Higher Supply, we chatted to them about all things music, life and fashion related.
I pretty much dress like I’m auditioning for a 90s coming-of-age Judd Apatow movie where I play a kid who wants to be a drummer in a band.
We played at The Forum in Melbourne in November 2019 and for some reason the stars aligned that night and I thought everyone just played out of their skin. Sometimes when you perform you just get into this zone and you feel like you’re mainlining the secret truths of the universe in musical form.
I’d like to be a park ranger. Just hanging out with the animals and the plants.
The violin. After a year I was sick of still being so bad at it that I begged my mum to let me play the drums instead. Much easier.
I’m obsessed with Otis by The Durutti Column at the moment.
I have always wanted a 3/4 length plaid shirt that exists somewhere between a flanny and a jacket, like coming down to just above the knees. Like a comfortable statement piece, you’re familiar with the style but not the form. I actually found what I thought was one in a flea market in New York City but when I brought it home to show my housemate he informed me it was a dressing gown. Not quite what I’d envisioned but at least I have something nice to wear when I get out of the shower now.
Thank you thank you very much. We have some shows this month on the east coast of Oz and some dates in New Zealand in June. Beyond that who can say but hopefully we will make it across the Pacific again at some point later this year, pandemic allowing.
