AFENDS X EXXY
Delve into a world of fun in our collaboration with Byron-born creative Lucca Young for the latest edition of Create Not Destroy.
The most recent instalment of our Create Not Destroy artist program sees the collboration with Lucca Young: the creative mastermind behind our capsule EXXY. Designed in the dark hours of the pandemic, Lucca channeled the primary energy of fun, playfulness and freedom in the form of escapism to build the foundation for this collection. His unique airbrushed artwork meets vibrant pops of plum, lemonade, forest green and subtle pops of blue in eco-friendly blends of hemp and cut into easy-wearing graphic tees, printed denim and accessories to match. We recently caught up with Lucca to get the low-down on his creative process and all things EXXY.
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF & YOUR WORK?
Me as the human was born in Byron Bay, back in times before paid parking and range rovers. The entity of exxy was born at a Christmas themed rave (in July) in the basement of my Melbourne home. The primary consistency in my work is that all pieces I make are airbrushed, screen printed or sewed by hand, sourcing primarily and refashioning second hand materials, making every garment made by exxy a one of one.
TALK US THROUGH YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS - WHERE DO YOU START?
The way it starts is always different, primarily its quite a tortured process to begin, like trying to break wild horse in. But, once I get the saddle on and the Eragon Audiobook playing I enter my flow state.

The collection was made in the midst of the dark hours of the “pandemic”, so the primary energy channeled when creating the collection was that of fun, playfulness and freedom.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE PIECE FROM THE COLLECTION & WHY?
Some interesting socks really are the most underrated thing in a wardrobe and can really make an outfit so my favourite piece is definitely the flower socks.

The forest.
WHAT IS THE MOST EXCITING PROJECT YOU’VE WORKED ON?
My Mum is a seamstress so any garments I make with her.
